About Plan Your Legacy
Born from personal tragedy, built to protect families
The Story Behind Plan Your Legacy
Plan Your Legacy was born from personal tragedy. When Sameer, a successful professional and devoted husband and father of two young children, passed away suddenly at the age of 40, his family was left in chaos. Despite his best intentions, the lack of a proper will led to months of legal battles, frozen bank accounts, and heartbreak. His widow and children struggled to access their own home and savings — running from one government office to another while still in mourning.
This story is not isolated. It plays out with an unnerving regularity across India. This was the genesis of Plan Your Legacy: if it could happen to Sameer, it could happen to any of us. We were built to ensure no family has to face such turmoil during their darkest hours.
“We’re on a mission to ensure no family experiences the chaos and heartbreak that could be prevented with proper estate planning.”
Redefining how Indians plan, document, and transfer their wealth by combining the convenience of technology with the rigour of experienced legal expertise. From will-writing and succession planning to the seamless transfer of assets across generations, we make estate planning accessible, compassionate, and professionally sound for every family.
Creating reliable, secure, and convenient solutions for estate management, planning, and implementation across India — so that every family, regardless of size or circumstance, can protect what they have built and leave their loved ones with clarity, not chaos.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about creating your will with Plan Your Legacy
A Will is a legal declaration by a person above 18 years of age regarding the distribution of their property — both movable and immovable — after their death. Without a Will, your assets are distributed according to the applicable succession laws, which may not reflect your actual wishes. A Will ensures your family is protected, disputes are avoided, and the transfer of assets is smooth and efficient during an already difficult time.
Any adult of sound mind who is 18 years or older can make a Will — regardless of the size of their estate or net worth. Whether you are salaried, self-employed, a business owner, an NRI, a homemaker, or a retired professional, you are eligible to make a Will. You do not need to be wealthy or own large assets to benefit from having one.
Yes. The legal validity of a Will in India is determined by the signing and witnessing process — not by how it was drafted. A Will created online through Plan Your Legacy is drafted by qualified lawyers, reviewed for legal completeness, and must be signed by you in the presence of two independent witnesses as required under the Indian Succession Act. This makes it fully legally valid and enforceable.
For a straightforward Will, you can complete your information in under 30 minutes. Our legal team then reviews your inputs and delivers your first draft within 3 working days. For complex estates involving businesses, multiple properties, or cross-border assets, the process may take 5–7 working days. Once you review and approve the draft, your Will is finalised and ready to sign.
Absolutely. Plan Your Legacy operates under a strict Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) signed before any of your information is shared with our legal team. Your data is protected with bank-grade encryption, and our platform ensures that no personal or financial information is disclosed to any third party. We have maintained a zero data-breach record since our founding in 2014.
Registration of a Will is not mandatory under Indian law. A properly signed and witnessed Will is legally valid without registration. However, registration adds an additional layer of authenticity, makes the Will harder to challenge, and can prevent disputes. Plan Your Legacy can facilitate the complete registration process on your behalf for a fully hassle-free experience if you choose to register.
Yes. A Will can be updated or revoked at any time during your lifetime. Minor changes can be made through a Codicil — a legal addendum to your existing Will — without rewriting it from scratch. Major changes, such as adding new beneficiaries or significant asset changes, may require a new Will to be drafted. We recommend revisiting your Will after major life events: marriage, birth of a child, property purchase, or retirement.
The Fulfilment Service is an industry-first initiative unique to Plan Your Legacy. After the testator's passing, our team assists the family in transferring all movable assets — bank accounts, Demat holdings, insurance policies, mutual funds, EPF/PPF, vehicles, and more — to the rightful beneficiaries as specified in the Will. We handle the documentation and coordination so the family does not have to navigate bureaucracy while grieving.
Plan Your Legacy handles complex estates including business succession, partnership interests, shares in private companies, digital assets, and cross-border property. For NRI clients, we specifically cover Indian-held assets — property, bank accounts, investments — which are typically not covered by wills drafted abroad. Our senior lawyers are experienced in multi-jurisdictional and high-value estate planning. Complex Wills are priced on a case-by-case basis.
Yes, absolutely. This is one of our core specialisations. Most NRIs have significant assets in India — property, NRE/NRO accounts, shares, family wealth — but their foreign Will does not cover these. Plan Your Legacy creates a dedicated Indian Will that covers all your India-held assets, handled entirely remotely. You do not need to travel back to India at any stage of the process.
